1. Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
The way of understanding physics and the general rule of the universe are really important in philosophy because as we know, philosophy is the study of knowledge, existence and reality. Although in order to know these three concepts, one must know the general rules to the universe, which they are trying to examine. So it is all basically one chain. Without one you cannot understand the other. In the art of philosophy, philosophers cannot explain their thoughts or ideas without being aware of the rules of the universe. Which in this case, physics becomes very important in philosophy. Usually when one studies philosophy, this person takes an idea and breaks it down to justify it in the best way they can. Philosophy is all about thinking outside the box. Thinking about the bigger picture, not staying small but thinking big and bold. If one wants to see how something really works, they will usually use physics to help them. Physics and philosophy go hand in hand together. Without one the other would not be the same. Physics is where the proof and experiments are as to philosophy is where the ideas and theories come in. So like I said earlier, they come hand in hand. It is like an idea then experiment to see if that idea can be proven. David Christopher states, “… a criterion of reality like that proposed by the named authors contains –however cautious its formulation may appear –an essential ambiguity when it is applied to the actual problems with which we are here concerned” (Quantum Weirdness 30). Here David explains how Bohr talks about how reality being proposed to an actual problem is what philosophy and physics is mainly about. Bohr is known to study both to get a better understanding, since they do come hand in hand.

Eliminative Materialism is the understanding of how things are made or how they work, like shown in the videos. Eliminative materialism got its name because it eliminates the thought of god made it and would give us a physical explanation to everything, using math, science, phycology and sociology. These ways provide a better understanding for people not only in a religious or mythical way but in a physical way. It is proof of matter. Three examples of this idea is first, people used to believe ghosts had some sort of power on humans, like pulling a muscle or making humans feel things that are not really there. Although now with all the sciences and studies of the body, we know that it is our nervous system and not the ghosts. Second, people thought that spirits were the reason for diseases. Although we now fast forward a couple of hundreds of years and we now know these diseases are caused by bacteria, viruses or infection. And last but not least, the thought of thunder being made by a thunder god. I mean it was a loud noise in the sky so with the lack of knowledge they had back then, it was just assumed that it was a god. Therefor with our knowledge in the twenty first century, we now know it has something to do with electromagnetism. These examples are great ways to show that we used eliminative materialism to eliminate the excuse of gods and spirits and ghosts causing things and looking at it in a scientific way and finding the true reason behind it.
